Print Release Terms

Releasing a book tells us it is finished and that you are happy for printed copies of it to be made and sold. Until you release it, a book can be previewed and proofed but not printed for sale.

You release a book by completing the release checklist in the Print studio. Ticking that checklist is your agreement to these terms, and we record the date and time you did so.

Every printed copy is sold at a fixed price for its length. We deduct what the copy costs to print, and the profit that remains is split 60% to you and 40% to us. You’ll see the exact rand figures for your own book — the price, the printing cost, and your earnings — in the Print studio when you release it.

Delivery is charged separately to the customer at R80.00 per order and is paid across to the courier. It is not part of the profit and neither of us earns anything from it.

You keep ownership of your book. Releasing it grants us a non-exclusive licence, for as long as the release stands, to do only what is needed to print and sell it:

• Reproduce the book — its text, illustrations, and covers — in printed form.
• Sell and distribute those printed copies, and arrange their delivery.
• Show the cover, title, author name, and a short extract when listing the book for sale.

Non-exclusive means you may publish or sell the same book anywhere else at the same time. We claim no rights beyond the list above, and none at all once a release is withdrawn and stock is exhausted.

By releasing a book you confirm that:

• The content is yours, or you have the rights to it, and it infringes no one else’s copyright, trade mark, or likeness.
• Every image in it is appropriate for the age of reader the book is intended for.
• Any real person depicted or named — including any child whose photograph informed an illustration — is someone you have the right to depict.
• It contains nothing unlawful, and nothing that breaches the acceptable-use section of our Terms & Conditions.

We may decline to print, or stop printing, a book we believe breaches any of these. Where we do, we will tell you why and refund any customer whose order we cannot fulfil.

You may withdraw a release at any time from the Print studio. Withdrawal takes effect immediately for new orders: the book stops being available to buy.

Withdrawal does not affect orders already placed. Copies already ordered will be printed and delivered, and you earn your share on them as normal.

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects what you earn or the rights you grant, we will tell you before it applies to your released books, and you may withdraw your releases if you do not accept it. Continuing to keep a book released after that notice is your acceptance.
